Will this little boy become a geologist or a naturalist? He already likes fossils and stones. But he also likes looking for snail shells in the garden and seashells on a beach. It's lovely weather today, in the middle of May. It's late spring, and soon it will be summer. Are these birds the first sign of summer? They are swallows or house-martins (I cannot see very well) and they have come back from the south. Is there enough food? Are they hungry? There aren't many butterflies yet, but there are plenty of little flies. There are lots of white flowers in the old churchyard, among the old gravestones. But I spied one purple one - an orchid, an early purple orchid.
