Is this the last day of winter? Tomorrow will be the first day of meteorological spring. But that will not be the end of wintry weather. There is a proverb: "Winter in Summer until Midsummer, and Summer in Winter until Christmas." However, there are already spring flowers. I have yellow flowers indoors and yellow flowers outside. And see all my pink flowers!

I have a birthday present. It is not a new present but a very old present, about sixty years old. It was made for me by my mum with big needles and thick wool, when I went to university. My mother could knit well. The woolly is very warm. In the past the women of Cornwall were known for their knitting skill. They made jerseys (knit-frocks) for their fishermen. Sometimes there were waves, cables, ropes, nets and anchors in the design. Front and back were alike. The gansey could be turned. Girls learnt to knit as well.

In the evening yesterday, in rather dim light, I saw an animal in my garden. It was eating something on the ground. Its colour was like a fox, but it was too big to be a fox. Its legs were too long. I couldn't see very clearly because I didn't have my glasses. The dog barked and it leapt away over the hedge. Perhaps I saw a little roe deer. There were no traces this morning.

I am happy to see my grandson. However it is a sad thing to see him on a Friday. He should be in school. Unfortunately he needs a special school and there is no place for him at all. He cannot go to an ordinary school and he is too old for nursery school. Why is there a problem? There is not enough money from the Government for Cornwall. There is not enough money for education. There are not enough school places. There are not enough schools for children with special educational needs. There are not enough teachers and classroom assistants. They do not earn enough pay. So, here's the little boy. His twin brother is at school but he is at home.

There was a lot of rain throughout the night, but still there is not enough water to fill the little stream. I took the dog for a walk on the upper footpath. I watched TV today. There was a programme about Welsh art. We saw a beautiful gold cape found in a very old burial. (The men who found the treasure lost the skeleton.) Where did the gold come from? Was it Welsh gold or was it perhaps Cornish gold (like in the Nebra Sky Disc)? There was a big copper mine nearby. And we know that Cornish tin was used with Welsh copper to make bronze. Can we still find gold (and tin) in Cornwall, in rivers or streams? Certainly you can get cider called "Cornish Gold".

The clouds are gleaming behind the tree.
