This is a day for quiet celebrations. It should have been a great festival but we are all under lockdown. We can't have street parties. We are not allowed. The War was finished in Europe seventy-five years ago (though there would still be fighting in other places until August). There was a huge joyful crowd in every street at that time. At this time the streets are empty. But there are souvenirs. My mother got a commemerative tea-towel 50 years later. There are other cloths as well. Here's one for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. They're a bit wrinkled and worn out. My younger cousin has some correspondence of her mother and another cousin. They used to send letters to each other. This letter was not sent. Bert had come home.
