Sometimes a dark day has a bright start. The sun today rose and illuminated the clouds with silver. I saw a huge silvery ball yesterday. The morning was full of colours. There are so many red berries on hawthorns (white thorns)! We ought to call them red thorns. There's an old saying (a proverb) if there are lots of berries in autumn. We will have a hard winter. There's plenty of food for the birds, certainly. There is much food for squirrels as well – every kind of nut fallen from the trees. These will be hidden. The silvery clouds didn't last. The sky is grey now and I can't see any animals. They are taking shelter in the trees. It's windy now - “Lorenzo” is passing by in the Atlantic Ocean. My apples have gone but there are still apples in some trees - they will fall soon. There are lots of apples and lots of thorns in Cornwall – near Truro is “Orchard Valley” Woods and on the railway line to Falmouth is “Thorny” Tunnel.
