Happy New
Year to you. Yesterday was a new year for the Chinese. It is a lunar year. It
starts at the second new moon after the winter solstice. The Year of the Rat
has gone and the Year of the Ox has arrived. Next February we'll have a Year of
the Tiger. I was born in a Year of the Rooster. Are you superstitious? Roosters
are disciplined, organized and very responsible. (Is that like me?) They are
always active and they seek to be the centre of attention, wherever they may be.
Really? New Year celebrations can last several days. Cards are sent, gifts are
given. Children get money in red envelopes. (Red is a lucky colour.) This year they'll have to have bank
cheques (COVID-19-free).
