A staircase is a way to walk between upstairs and downstairs, up or down between two floors. Wrong! That is true for big people but for little people it's not very true. Adults are afraid, afraid of falling. For children in bad weather a flight of stairs is a playground. It is a mountain, or a cliff above the sea, or a slide at a fair. They climb up the stairs and slide or bump down stairs again. "Help me! Help me!" they say. Children are not afraid.
