The Paralympic Games 2020 have begun in Tokyo. They are a year later than planned, because of the Covid pandemic. Today saw the opening ceremony. The Paralympic Flame started in Stoke Mandeville five days ago. Torches brought it to Tokyo and the big flame was lit. There was a Parade of Nations, led by the new Refugee Paralympic Team (six athletes to represent 82 million refugees worldwide). Great Britain's flag was carried by Ellie Simmonds (swimmer) and John Stubbs (archer). There was a light show and dancing. The theme was "We have wings". No disability will hold these inspirational people back.
