Things have reverted to normal, at last. The house is quite quiet after an early morning panic. There was a quick walk to the bus-stop with my granddaughter and her son. My walk home was slower and I could look around. The hedges are turning - it's the end of summer already. There are some blackberries - and soon there will be many more (though there are still flowers too). The cornfield has turned golden. The ferns on verges have turned yellow. They are falling down and making the road narrower. There are still lots of sweet-smelling honeysuckle flowers. And now there are apples on the wild apple trees in the hedge. Are they cider apples, I wonder? This is cider country. Soon I can have apple and blackberry - with shortcrust pastry or crumble, I wonder?
