Three days ago I saw a weird picture. It had the look of a hand,
with a thumb and four other fingers, reaching up from the forest floor. The
fingers were rough and grey with bloated pink tips. What is it? It is not a
real hand. Is it a Halloween joke? No. It's an (inedible) fungus. Its name is
"Dead Man's Fingers". There's a seaweed with the same name. That is
also called "Green Sea Fingers". I prefer the name "Ladies'
Fingers". They are a green vegetable. I have never eaten them. I have not
eaten "Witches' Fingers" either. They are biscuits made for Halloween
- with almonds (nuts) for fingernails.
