The year is turning. Already, we have seen the last full moon of the year - Cold Moon or Frost Moon (though there is no frost tonight). There's a good photo by NASA - I can't see details in my own photo. Now the moon is waning. We are seeing the end of Sagittarius and the start of Capricorn, though I can't see the right stars for a constellation in the night sky myself! I certainly can't see a fish tail anywhere. What is Capricorn; what breed of beast is it? Tonight, it is the longest night of the year. The Earth is balanced. The days were getting shorter since the summer solstice, now they will get longer again. Happy Winter Solstice to you!

Nobody wants things to go wrong before Christmas. Are we unlucky? Our freezer started to defrost with food in it. There was water in the freezer drawer at the top. I had to bake one pizza, three bean burgers and ten vegan sausages very quickly. They could not be re-frozen without risk. Fortunately, the other drawers were OK. Has the freezer broken down? No. Someone knocked the control button. Is there anything else that can go wrong? Certainly! Today we needed a plumber. Is that unlucky? I am happy that the toilet didn't go wrong on Christmas Day.

What did I write on this day in the past year? The weather was different. We had to wear wellingtons (waterproof boots) because the weather was wet. There was water on the lane and Bolingey Stream was deep. Now the lane is dry because there is a new pipe from the pond. The weather today is cold, dry and windy. We could not walk far today - the little boy was with us again and he was hungry. He is always hungry! He is probably growing fast. There are no new photos today.

An old rhyme in Cornish begins: Is there cheese? Is there or isn't there? Today the saying should be: Will there be Christmas? Will there be or won't there be? Will I have to have a Covid passport to visit my son and his household for Christmas dinner? My sister-in-law won't leave Cornwall for visiting her own sister. Nobody wants to be ill. We had a plan to dine with our daughter, but that is no longer possible. We will have to do the cooking ourselves. What will we do? Turkey is traditional, with roast potatoes, stuffing and Brussels sprouts. But I do not like turkey and my oven is too small anyway. I will not roast a turkey. My husband bought beef to make pasties!

Sometimes, there's not any great beauty in the world in winter, but one must seek what there is. One must be thankful for small mercies, appreciate the little things in life. The sea can be beautiful at the same time as being unfriendly. There is an icy beauty in the full moon tonight, with a coloured halo all around. Two common little daisies are happy, a rose and purple fuchsia is cheerful. And every feather on a speckled hen is a work of art.

The weather could be dreary but one must still walk for one's health. One must not be a couch potato. It's possible to watch other people working. There's a lot of work all around. We don't have to be gloomy ourselves. Today we can walk on an old footpath, perhaps a footpath used by miners or quarrymen. In future we will walk on the new multi-purpose track on the abandoned railway. The big machines will go, but will pedestrians be safe from bikers and equestrians? Will the viaduct be safe as a footbridge?

I'm tired today. There are only ten days until Christmas. Can I survive? There is only one child (three years old) in the house today, but he is very energetic and clumsy.
