We will finish our look at mednes (SWFM mynnes) wish, will, want, intend with the third persons singular and plural.

Present-Future

3 sg vedn ~ vydn,

m: vedn e ~ ev, vedna va,

Any subject can be used before a vedn,

e.g. ev a vedn he will

an vebyon a vedn the boys will

Tamsin a vedn Thomasina will

Conditional (Also forms an) Imperfect.

m: venja va, venja e ~ ev,

f: venja hei

3 pl venjans, venja anjei

We will use these with the verbs

pònya to run and kerdhes to walk

along with adverbs üskis fast, quickly and syger slowly.

N.B. In Late Cornish adjectives can be used adverbially or preceded by the adverbial particle en.

Present-future 3s examples

Ev a vedn pònya üskis. He will run quickly. He wants to run quickly.

Vedna va pònya üskis? Will he run quickly? Does he want to run fast?

Na vedn hei pònya üskis. She won't run quickly. She doesn't want to run quickly.

A na vedn hei pònya üskis? Won't she run quickly? Does she not want to run fast?

Conditional/imperfect 3s examples

Ev a venja kerdhes en syger. He would walk slowly. He'd like to walk slowly. He wanted to walk slowly.

Venja va pònya üskis? Would he run quickly? Would he like to run quickly? Did he want to run quickly?

Na venja hei kerdhes en syger. She wouldn't walk slowly. She wouldn't like to walk slowly. She didn't want to walk slowly.
