Remembrance Sunday in a time of Covid. This day is not like past years. In the past there was a crowd around every war memorial. In Truro soldiers in military uniform marched to the cathedral, supported by men, women and children in school uniforms. Everyone wore hats. Sometimes there was rain and they needed umbrellas. Today there was a need for social distancing. Small groups laid wreaths, but there were no big crowds. In a nearby churchyard there is a corner for gravestones of soldiers and sailors. There is a small cross with a red poppy in front of each one. Each stone shows a name and a regiment. The exception is a stone for the Great War. There are two nameless men – both are unknown sailors.
