Christmas Day is coming. We won't have a celebration here until Sunday, but there were already mid-winter celebrations in Cornwall. In Penzance there was a Mantol Festival for the shortest day, and in Mousehole there was Tom Bawcock's Eve. Every time in deep winter there are lots of lights to drive away the darkness, and people dressed in disguise. There is music and dance and stories (The Mousehole Cat for example).
