A popular folk carol in Cornwall is “I saw three ships” (As I sat on a sunny bank). This is a very old song, first published in the 17th century. Something similar was sung in Scotland in the 16th century. It is said that the carol was sung by Cornish miners, coming up from the darkness underground to the sunshine above.
