The night last night was even colder. There was ground frost on the grass and on molehills in the lawn. The frozen grass crunches under my feet. I can see my footprints behind me. There are no other footprints. The moles are snug and cosy, under the ground. (I suppose.) There are birds all around, waiting for food, but they are too light to make footprints. There is hoar-frost on the dead flowers of my hydrangea. These dead flowers protect the new buds in the bush. But there is no protection for the pink flowers on a different bush.
