When you write a diary or
talk about your activities you often want to say what you didn’t do. This is
why you need the compound preterite.
We can put our previous
sentences and phrases into the negative.

Notice the double negative in these last two
examples – they actually say I didn’t learn
nothing / I didn’t spend nothing – considered very bad in English!
