Richard Gendall wrote about a raven flying and hovering above part of Cornwall. "She passes over a ruined hillfort." There are more than eighty hillforts in Cornwall. Which hillfort did Gendall mean? Here's a big one - Castle-an-Dinas. "There is a memorial that was erected by a king in memory of his son, 1500 years ago." What stone is that? Here's a very old inscribed stone (called "Writing Stone"), but it's not near that castle. "Here's a church on the bank of the estuary." Is this that church - St Winnow by the River Fowey? At night-time the nightjar purrs. I've never seen a nightjar - and what sound is that? "She went on until she hovered over the rapids (Golitha)." The she went home.

One year ago, from Downing Street, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom announced a restriction of our activity and movement because there was a pandemic. Initially, in 2019 in China, there was a report about a cluster of pneumonia cases linked with a big market selling fish and live animals. Perhaps the disease started in bats. The disease spread to Europe. It was called COVID-19. The first case in Cornwall, in March, was a Cornish resident returned home from part of Italy affected by the virus. Soon there were many cases and many deaths. There was panic! The shop shelves were empty. Now, remember: stay alert, control the virus, save lives.

It's another International Day today - World Water Day. It's an annual United Nations day that highlights the importance of fresh, clean water. There are topics relevant to drinking water, hygiene and things concerning sanitation. Some parts of the world can't get enough water - there is not enough rain. The women have to walk many miles. Sometimes the water is poisoned by industry producing pollution. And the oceans are full of plastic.

I'm reading something on my friend's blog, "https://nebesgeryow.blogspot.com/". Richard Gendall describes some sheep as "the mountain flock, with their black faces/muzzles" These animals are a very old breed, nowadays called "Scottish blackface". Did they come from Scotland originally? Who knows? In days long gone, perhaps, sheep in Cornwall were completely black, like Welsh mountain sheep. Only the rams have horns. The ewes are polled, hornless. Nowadays, the majority of sheep are hybrid, mixed breeds.

It is the spring or northward equinox. The night will be the same length as the day. The sun will be over the Equator at midday. Tomorrow there will be more daylight than darkness in the night. Today is the end of my Zodiac sign, Pisces, and tomorrow will be the beginning of the next sign, Aries. Will anything change, or will nothing change? Probably not! A big change has already occurred - yesterday. After that, all changes will be small. I have a new walking companion, but we couldn't walk beyond the animals. Great-Uncle Iain passed the house on his bike. He likes cycling. He couldn't come indoors. Goodbye Great-Uncle!
