Otta agan stappys nowydh!

After a very long, quiet period without seeing any young people, suddenly, my house seems to be full of them! Here are two more grandchildren. Their father would like to play golf. "Can I bring the children for a few hours?" "Sure, why not?" I agreed. "I'll be happy to see them after such a long time." But what is this? Nothing was said about the puppy or a friend. The little boy should have eaten his lunch and then had a nap, but he would neither eat nor sleep. Instead, he played together with his young uncle. The nephew with a blue plastic hoop chased the uncle on a bicycle. It's a lovely day. The girls preferred to walk with the puppy. The puppy wanted to drink water from the little stream. Behold our new steps!

Here's a bridleway in Cocks (home of the Cook family long ago). It's broad enough for the cars of several house owners. There's a right of way for the public on foot, bicycle or horse, through to another road, but there is no through road for cars. Opposite the bridleway is a footpath. The "no horses" sign has gone (the paint has weathered away). This footpath is deceptive. There's enough room for a horse, isn't there? But, look! Before long we encounter a locked gate and a stile. Only pedestrians can proceed beside the abandoned railway. Here's another little footpath near the church, going to the spring field. In the past the spring provided water for the church, but now the path is not a public right of way. (And there's a new water pipe for the church.) Can you find all the footpaths. This is a brand new sign to help you.

Thank you, Cornwall Council! We have brand new steps in our footpath in the little wood. Now it is safe, and we don't need to be afraid of slipping on a muddy slope. The old irregular stones are gone. The new steps have edges made of wood (they will rot eventually). They will not last like stone. People have rights to walk on the footpath. It is public, shown by a yellow way-marker (yellow arrow). The Council must look after 2,216 miles of public footpath. (That is 3,567 km.)  You can see some of them on the Council map, marked in purple. Many are not suitable for any wheels. There are also 415 miles of public bridleway (green on the map). These are suitable for horses and bikes as well as walkers and pushchairs.

A proverb starts "Winter in summer until Midsummer." We had winter in spring yesterday - a shower of hailstones and a bitterly cold wind from the Arctic.      However, the weather is better today. The wind has changed and there is bright sun. "Let's sort out the shed! It's too full of junk." said my husband. "After a stroll," I said. "Look! There is blossom coming on the pear tree and the apple tree. The shed can wait!" All the blackthorns are covered in white flowers and I saw some white violets.

I have three grandchildren's birthdays this month. It wasn't possible to go shopping, so I had to make birthday cards. There are lots of illustrations on the Internet if I don't want to paint or draw myself. What design is suitable for a fourteen-year-old boy? He likes making music and games on his computer - and he doesn't like going to the hairdresser or barber's shop. Perhaps I could use an illustration of a boy with a computer for his head and long wires for hair. It's easy to find illustrations for boys who love sport, but which one should I choose?
