2026 Day 142

2026 Dedh Cans Dogens ha Dew

De Gwener, nessa warn ügens mis Me
Friday, 22nd May

Ewa termyn dhe bedery dro dhe'n hav? Ma hav ow tos. Whei a vedn mos dhe'n treth (dres lycklod).
Is it time to think about the summer? Summer is coming. You will go to the beach (probably)

You need to know the words for all the stuff we take to the beach (and take home again).

Beach gear is daffar treth.

When it comes to shopping for beach gear, we can say:

We went to the beach shop and bought ...

Nei eth dhe'n shoppa treth ha perna ..

bucket

pal

astel-corfplaynya

or bodybord

gwelen-roos

pel treth

baner bian

sarf neyja

towel treth

gwedrow lagajek

gwedrow howl

hott howl

dehen howl

If you want to say you have something you can use:

Ma dhebm ... or Ma dhe vy … I have ...

Ma dhen ... or Ma dhe nei … We have …

e.g. Ma dhebm daffar treth. I have beach gear.

e.g. Ma dhen towel treth brâs. We have a big beach towel.

The word for already is solabres:

e.g. Ma dhebm hott howl solabres. I have a sun hat already.

e.g. Ma dhen pel treth solabres. We have a beach ball already.

If you want to emphasise what you have, put it early in your sentence:

e.g. Ma sarf neyja dhebm. I have a kite.

e.g. Ma bodybordys dhen. We have bodyboards.

If you want to emphasise who has something use the longer version.

e.g. Ma bucket dhe vy. I have a bucket.

e.g. Ma pal dhe nei. We have a spade.

How do you ask if the shop has something? Use eus?

e.g. Pejy, eus gwedrow howl? Please, are there any sunglasses?

e.g. Eus dehen howl, mar pleg? Is there any sun cream, please?

e.g. Eus gwelen-roos dhe whei? Do you have a fishing net?

And if the shelves are empty!

Nag eus daffar treth moy. There is no more beach gear.

We have seen the stuff we use at the beach. Now let's look at the things we do there. It's time to learn some more words we can use in the summer.

Rather like the game “I went to market and bought ...” you can start a sentence with “We went to the beach and ...

Nei eth dhe'n treth ha ..
