The sky is grey and I am happy. The weather today is cooler than the weather yesterday. I feel more comfortable. What is that sound? There are some magpies swearing at something. Stithians is well known in Cornwall for two reasons. Stithians Show is in July, the first Monday after the Feast Day of Stithians Church. It is a big agricultural show, the biggest in West Cornwall; many animals and a big crowd. Nearby is Stithians Lake. That is the biggest lake in West Cornwall. It is a reservoir for fresh water, since the dam was finished in 1967. It is also used for sailing and other water sports. But now there is not enough water. This old bridge is exposed. Old stones are discovered. Are they from the Stone Age?

There is an ancient fish, the sturgeon, found in lakes and rivers of North America. It's a fresh water fish. They can grow very large and reach an old age. Once they were plentiful, but too many were taken. They were easily caught in August, so the full moon this month is called the "Sturgeon Full Moon". There are no sturgeons in Cornwall. We have our own ugly fish! This is the monkfish or sea-devil.

Every emergency service is busy. 50,000 visitors are anticipated in Newquay so there are extra community support officers as well as extra policemen. Hopefully, there won't be too many offences. Meanwhile, fire fighters are still extinguishing many fires in the town, wood and field of straw.

I won't go into Newquay today, or tomorrow. There's a festival there, called "Boardmasters". There is music and surfing. A great crowd of people is descending on the town. The trains are full and there is chaos at some train stations. Some people couldn't get their seat, and some were left on the platform.
