Nag eus olow logos, e'n gwelha pres.  Mabm qwilkiores a dhifünas ha neyja dhe ves.

I need exercise. I wouldn't like to get tubby. The cats are happy being lazy. They don't need to do anything. They can sleep in the sun. I went to the shed to sit on the exercise bike and cycle without travelling (among the rubbish). The view was very lovely - but unvarying. So I took a book with me and read. The cat couldn't understand! I inspected several boxes in the shed. One of them had been eaten by little animals - woodlice and snails love cardboard and paper. There are no traces of mice, fortunately. A queen wasp woke up and flew away.

I must do something, but what shall I do? What would I like to do? Nothing! But I ought to do something useful. I know, I'll tidy my shed (studio or office), I will organise it. It has been used as a store for the family's rubbish. I can't use it for painting or writing any longer - it is too full of things. It is untidy. There are the grandchildren's playthings - a little wooden kitchen, a violin and a grubby drum, four footballs, a pasta machine, a folding pushchair, boxes of plastic bricks and bags of teddy bears. I found an exercise bike - I can make use of it (because I can't go out).

Life is not normal these days. We can't go to church, nor visit our friends or our family either. It's Palm Sunday today. When I was a child we went to church to get a cross made of part of a palm leaf - to remember Jesus's entry into Jerusalem. We read in the Holy Bible, (Matthew 21:7,8) "... and Jesus sat on the donkey. And a very large crowd spread their clothes on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and threw them out on the road." My mother-in-law was born more than a hundred years ago today. She's dead now, of course, buried in Kenwyn. It's not possible for the family to put flowers on her grave today. We would like to go with flowers.
She liked spring flowers.

There is so much suffering in the world we ought to find joy in things that are little and interesting. There is beauty all around us - and down below and high above us. Sometimes living things delight us and at times it is an inanimate thing - perhaps minerals. There is a lot of quartz in Cornwall. Rose quartz is pink (there's iron in it). Amethyst is purple. They are crystals from rocks. Pebbles from the beach can be lovely, rubbed smooth by waves. Pebbles travel along the coast. I like sea glass as well. Old bottles are turned into bottle-green jewels (there are other colours, too) - pretty things we can pick up. Do you like fossils? I have several fossils. These four sea urchins were fossilised many millions of years ago.

There's a corpse under the table in the kitchen. Who committed the crime? The three-legged cat is not a criminal. She's too old and slow. No, it's the other cat, with ginger fur. Who is the unlucky victim? It's a wood mouse, with a white belly. And there is more death in my garden. There are dead, black leaves on this shrub. Is it sick? What is the matter? Was it damaged by bad weather? Will there be flowers on it in the summer? Or is it dying? Never mind. There is life all around. Jackdaws are making a nest in the old chimney. And for every dead flower there is another one that is still beautiful. And there are little flowers to be found.

One more day without going far. I have to get excitement in small things! In the morning, what a racket in the sky. A large flock of seagulls was flying around and screaming. Something was happening in the field above us. We don't usually see seagulls here. In a short time they were gone. After that our daughter came. We can't go to the shops - we should stay home. She went shopping for us. She won't come in the house, so she put our groceries in the garden. We brought them inside (and then washed our hands). In the afternoon we walked by and on the old railway embankment. Many trees are growing on it and there are no iron rails at all. At eight o'clock in the evening we applauded the NHS with our neighbours. All the dogs were barking.

It's April Fools' Day, the first day of April. In the morning we could play silly jokes on one another. But now, perhaps, it's not a good time to do that - in the middle of a great global sickness. However, we can look back to past times. There are several funny tricks that will amuse us. In 1957 there was a report on BBC news - about a harvest in Switzerland of spaghetti growing in special trees. In 1974 there was cloud of black smoke coming from a volcano in Alaska - a mountain dormant for 400 years. People were troubled - but it was a  huge heap of tyres burning in the crater. In 1978 Dick Smith towed an "iceberg" from the Antarctic into Sydney Harbour. People wanted to buy ice for their drinks - but it was fake.
