There are pictures on my walls, paintings done in oil paints and watercolours. I have images of trees by rivers, of bushes in hedges and of flowers in a jug. They are pretty, but there is nothing more beautiful than nature itself. The wind blew our silver birch down. My husband is sawing up the trunk and branches. Each piece is like a work of art; the colours of the bark and the lichen on it are so fine, cream and grey-green. My paintings are already old and they will last for my children and grandchildren, but the silver birch will be burnt next year.
