I have two issues of the American magazine, LIFE. They are eighty years old. They were both published in 1945, but there is an important time between them. One was bought in March 1946 in Indiana, the other was bought this year online. The end of the war was coming closer. LIFE was published for the mass-market, full of photojournalism and advertisements. The price of two years subscription was 8 dollars 50 cents, with 10 cents per copy. (So why is there a price of 1 shilling on one of them? Is it counterfeit?) There are lots of advertisements for tobacco and alcoholic drinks (less than one generation since the end of Prohibition).
