In Cornwall there was a tradition of White Thursday or Picrous Day, that was Thursday one week (or a bit more) before Christmas. It was a special holiday for tin miners, commemorating the discovery of tin. There are many stories, some of them supernatural, with fairies (little folk)! There's nothing supernatural with Black Friday. That began in America - it's the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's a tradition for shops to offer lower prices - so everyone is spending more money for Christmas!
