Tuesday, 19th April

Socrates a'n lavaras en trial, y drial ev. Filosofer o ev. Res veu dhodhans dewis tredh mernans hag exilyans. Ev a dhewisas mernans. Bôwnans heb filosofieth, heb fürneth, na dal oy. Pandr'ew an skians a hebma? Nei a dal cara ha whilas fürneth. My a'n gwelas war ven bedh. Bedh ow howeth ew.

There is a saying of Socrates (translated into English, I do not know Ancient Greek): The unconsidered (unexamined) life is not worth living. Socrates said it in a trial, his trial. He was a philosopher. He had to choose between death and exile. He chose death. Life without philosophy, without wisdom, is worth nothing. What is the meaning of this? We should love and seek wisdom. I saw it on a gravestone. It was the grave of a good man, a philosopher, a writer and a teacher, a sage. It is the grave of my friend.
