Today the light in the day equals the darkness in the night. There are twelve hours of light and twelve hours of darkness. Tomorrow the light will be longer. But it's not the Equinox yet. The centre of the sun is not above the Equator. Twilight gives some light before sunrise and some light after sunset. The birds see the light. They are lively in the early morning.

Are you lively? Here's a lesson for you.

Building up our Cornish language. Part 15b

Cressya emann agan tavas Kernôwek. Radn 15b

Continuing with the third person  singular:
when we come to the masculine, we have a choice.
If the pronoun “he” comes before the verb, or if it follows a consonant,  use “ev”. (Remember, word order depends on importance.)

Thew ev kei. He/it is a dog.
Kei ew ev. He/it is a dog.
Ev ew kei. He/it is a dog.

Ew ev kei? Is he/it a dog?
Nag ew ev kei. It/he is not a dog.
(Occasionally you may see ewava rather than ew ev.)

If the pronoun “he” follows a vowel, we usually use “va”.

Ma va ow tebry. He is eating.
Üjy va ow tebry? Is he/it eating?
Nag üjy va ow tebry. He is not eating.

We can add the pronoun, ev, to a noun to indicate or emphasise  ownership.
Hedna ew an kei ev. That is his dog.
Hebma ew y gei ev. This is his dog.

We can even change the tense:
Ev o kei. He/it was a dog.
Kei o va. He/it was a dog.

O va kei? Was he/it a dog?
Nag o va kei. It/he was not a dog.

Thera va ow tebry. He was eating.
Era va ow tebry? Was he eating?
Nag era va ow tebry. He was not eating.

Ev can also be followed by the verbal particle “a” and either the  present-future or the preterite, e.g.
ev a vedh he will be
ev a veu he was
ev a wra he will do
ev a wrüg he did
ev a wel he sees, will see
ev a welas he saw

Here’s another old (anonymous) pre-SWF rhyme with “ha my ow mos”:
Spot the pronouns!

Idn Metten Mee moaz worra’n Vorr,
Mee mettias gen Moaz, ha clave ô e Thor.
Deez methe hye Garra ny deaw geel try,
ter Mee an breze, na go, Che vaze
devethez gen Flô gen Arral, ha vedn geel Vee Taaz

Üdn mettin, ha my ow mos war an fordh,
my a vetyas gen mowes ha clav o hy thorr.
“Deus”, emedh hei, “gerowgh nei dew gwil trei”.
Ter my ha'm bres, "Nag o chy vas,
Devedhys gen flogh gen aral,
hag a vedn gwil vy tas!"
One morning as I was going along the road,
I met a girl with a sick stomach.
"Come", she said, "let's us two make three!"
To my mind, "You are not good,
come with child by another,
and wish to make me father!
