Let’s continue our look at pronouns and jump to the third person singular.
There is just one word for “she”. That is “hei” SWFM “hi”, without change, whether it comes before or after the verb.
Where you position the parts of the sentence depends on what you want to emphasise.
Cath ew hei. She/it is a cat.
Hei ew cath. She/it is a cat.
Ew hei cath? Is she/it a cat?
Nag ew hei cath. It/she is not a cat.
Ma hei ow tebry. She is eating.
Üjy hei ow tebry? Is she/it eating?
Nag üjy hei ow tebry. She is not eating.
We can add this pronoun to a noun to indicate or emphasise ownership.
Hedna ew an kei hei. That is her dog.
Hebma ew hy hei hei. This is her dog.
Notice the breathed mutation k > h after the possessive adjective hy.
(SWFM sounds like a giggle! Hemm yw hy hi hi!)
Hei o cath. She/it was a cat.
Cath o hei. She/it was a cat.
O hei cath? Was she/it a cat?
Nag o hei cath. It/she was not a cat.
Thera hei ow tebry. She was eating.
Era hei ow tebry? Was she eating?
Nag era hei ow tebry. She was not eating.
Hei can also be followed by the verbal particle “a” and either the present-future or the preterite, e.g.
hei a vedh she will be
hei a veu she was
hei a wra she will do
hei a wrüg she did
hei a wel she sees, will see
hei a welas she saw
