What is an island and what is a rock? There is water all around an island but water can be all around a rock as well. An island is a bit of land with water all around. Does it need soil (ground) on a rock to be an island? There is a place in Cornwall called the Port of the Island (Mousehole). It's not far from Penzance. The island isn't big. Is there soil on it? I don't know. It's called St Clement's Isle now, but another name was Crag With Plants. (And plants need soil.) A long time ago there was a chapel on it. There was another “Port” (landing place) with a chapel on a rock. The old name of the rock was “Engarder” (The Chair). Now it's called “Chapel Rock”, but there is no longer a chapel. Perhaps it's not an island because you can reach it across the beach when it's low tide.
