It's Good Friday. This should be a quiet day, I think. But my world is not quiet today. My husband and I have five grandchildren with us - and three cats, one dog and one guinea pig! It is not quiet. They need food and amusement. They are looking forward to Easter, but there is one more day to wait. There is beauty all around, in gardens and the surrounding countryside. But yesterday, there was not a sweet smell - because there was muck-spreading in the fields. I have many sweet violets, but I could not smell them.

I do not like rain. I don't like being wet. But rain is very good for all the green plants. The horses love eating new growing grass (but they do not eat the primroses). The little boy loves rain. He loves jumping over puddles and, like Peppa Pig, in muddy puddles. Boys will jump without puddles too - their two feet flying above the ground.

Why is the first day of the month of April the day for pranks and hoaxes and to play a joke on someone? The origin was in France in 1582. Before that, the New Year was celebrated on 1st April in Julius Caesar's old calendar. Then Pope Gregory's new calendar changed the New Year to 1st January. But some people did not get the message, so the "April Fools" celebrated New Year on the wrong day. There was a famous hoax in 1957 on BBC TV - a spaghetti harvest (on trees). Good jokes today showed a pink seal and tartan sheep. And there's a tree as well - with chocolate eggs. What is your favourite?
