The next month (September in English) is called 'mis Gwedngala' the month of white straw. Perhaps it should be called the month of golden straw. This month is the hot month or the summery month. A better name, I think, would be the month of seeds, 'mis Has', because there are seeds all around. There are acorns, lots of acorns, under the oak trees. There are lots of hazel nuts  under the hazel trees. Some of them are already eaten, perhaps by squirrels, but some of them are still green. You can eat hazelnuts, but don't eat an acorn. Black seeds of alexanders were used by the Romans, I believe, as spice, but I don't like them. They are too strong, too spicy.

The weather today is very windy. The trees are swaying/swinging in the strong wind. (Swaying/swinging is better than burning!) The wind isn't cold because it's southerly. A lot more apples have fallen. There are apples crushed by cars in the lane, but there are still a lot apples out of reach in that tree.

I am very old but I can climb the hillside, with a bit of help. I use Uncle Horace's walking stick. He died a long time ago. The little boy likes being helpful - with a camera! He's picking plums, too. The plums are too sour to be eaten without sugar. I will have to stew them or make jam - that would be tasty. The plumtree is very old because the hedge is very old, older than the house, probably. The plums are not large, though they are bigger than sloes.

The corn has been cut on the golden hillside opposite, the grain has been carried away, and left behind are a lot of big straw bales. Soon it will be September, the month of "white straw" - but that straw is not white! There are a lot of red berries, called haws, on trees called "white thorn". In spring there are white flowers, but the hawthorns are not white now. In spring the blackthorn trees have white flowers, too. But now they are black with lots of black sloes. Now I need a bottle of gin to make sloe gin for Christmas.

What a very busy day! Old and young visitors, one after another. The old woman is a childhood friend - we met seventy-two years ago. Now we live many miles apart. It was a happy time to be together for three hours. Her family was on the beach. My family was on the beach too - but the two families did not meet. My young people came here later. The old folk drank tea and ate cake in the house. The young people ran and rolled around the garden.
