Today I will write about candles. Why? I saw flowers on a big tree, on a horse chestnut. The flowers are in shapes like candles. But that sort of candle is quite big. There are no candles as big in my house. There are only little candles; candles for birthday cakes, candles with scent, candles if there is no electricity. Candles can be made of beeswax (expensive) or paraffin wax (from oil, cheaper). In times gone by in Truro (on Lemon Quay) there was a little factory called Atlas Soap and Candle Works. Cheap tallow was used, fat from dead animals. What a whiff! Miners carried tallow candles.
