The Council of Europe first thought about protecting national minorities after the War in 1949. Finally 22 member states were signatories of the Framework and it became functional almost fifty years later. The Welsh, Scots and Irish were protected. Cornish people still had to wait. Then, in 2014, the Cornish were recognised, by the Government of the United Kingdom, as a national minority - with the same status as our Celtic cousins. But there's no funding for our language and we do not have our own parliament. We do not have a national television channel. And, sad news, the BBC has a plan to "reduce" Radio Cornwall - our "national" radio. Some staff will be redundant or redeployed. Westminster does not want to support Cornwall.
