Happy First Day of August to you! Happy Lughnasa. Lughnasa is a Celtic festival, a very old festival, before Christianity. Once upon a time there was a fair in Morvah, the biggest Lughnasa Fair outside of Ireland. Morvah is not far from the coast opposite Ireland. Gold treasure from Ireland was found in a field. Lughnasa was sacred to the god Lugh but in Morvah the story was mixed up with the tale of Jack the Tinkard. It was an excuse to drink too much and be saucy! Morvah is quieter nowadays. Now in churches there is Lammastide, better behaved, for blessing the start of the harvest. But here's a barley field. When will this field be cut?
