We see symbols and signs in many places. Sometimes there are words but from time to time there is only a shape. An engine house shadow on a wooden post will show you that it’s a footpath around a mining area, without a single word. Perhaps there’s an image of a man falling down a mineshaft. There is no need of “danger” or “keep out”. Do not cross wire netting. A hole could be there. But take care you don’t fall in this hole. There is no sign at all for this leat. There is no water in it because the mine is abandoned and quiet. Horses can’t use this footpath because there are several stiles. It’s difficult for some dogs as well. But horses could go on the road. That’s dangerous for cars and for horses if there is a careless driver.
