I have a birthday present. It is not a new present but a very old present, about sixty years old. It was made for me by my mum with big needles and thick wool, when I went to university. My mother could knit well. The woolly is very warm. In the past the women of Cornwall were known for their knitting skill. They made jerseys (knit-frocks) for their fishermen. Sometimes there were waves, cables, ropes, nets and anchors in the design. Front and back were alike. The gansey could be turned. Girls learnt to knit as well.
