There's no Olympic Games without water! There's water in Paris - there's a big river called the Seine. In the triathlon, many swimmers swam fifteen hundred metres in this river/water. The start and finish of the swim was a pontoon by a famous bridge (Pont Alexandre III). After the swim came 40km cycling and 10km running. That is not an easy race. There are swimming races in a 50m swimming pool as well. The shortest is one length. The 1500 metres race is 30 laps/lengths (almost a mile).
