Today it is the last day in February. It should be the last winter's day. Tomorrow the spring should begin. But we have a warning from the national weather service (the "Met Office" ). A lot of rain is coming, and snow could fall on high ground. The weather could be colder.

Today, I am remembering my beloved sister. Her birthday is today. She would be ninety-four, but she is passed away now. She was like a second mother to me. I can’t remember her when she was a child. In my memory she is always grown-up. She was very kind. She was a tailoress – a marvellous seamstress. She knew how to make everything. She sewed a wedding dress for me. And she made our delicious wedding cake.

After yesterday’s excitement, we have a quiet day today. All the cake is eaten and all the wine is drunk! The doctor came and wrote a new prescription for my husband. Unexciting!

I do not like being old! I'd like to forget birthdays. I started the day quietly. The weather was fine and my husband and I walked with the dog. Our neighbour’s mare was sunning herself. After that, my peace was disrupted! My family arrived with food and wine and flowers and cakes and candles and calls of “Happy Birthday, Mum!” and “Happy Birthday, Nana!” And, sure, I was happy to see them.
