I like handwriting. When I was a child I learnt to write with a pen and real ink. The style of writing was traditional. We had copybooks for practising. (There's an old saying "Don't blot your copybook!") Handwriting was considered important in my primary school in the fifties - after scripture, reading and composition. The style is English roundhand, or copperplate. (In years gone by copybooks were printed with the use of engraved plates of copper.) That is still my style. But look at the letter written by Bodinar in the 18th century. That's his style of writing as well. Or is this a copy written by somebody else? His spelling is interesting. He wrote "tees cooth", but now we write "tüs coth". Ought we to say "tees cooth"? My friend Margaret can write beautifully - calligraphy is an art with her. It's not copperplate handwriting. You can see her pictures on this website. The Cornish play "Origo Mundi" is harder to read.
