I do not like being old! I'd like to forget birthdays. I started the day quietly. The weather was fine and my husband and I walked with the dog. Our neighbour’s mare was sunning herself. After that, my peace was disrupted! My family arrived with food and wine and flowers and cakes and candles and calls of “Happy Birthday, Mum!” and “Happy Birthday, Nana!” And, sure, I was happy to see them.
