St Ives is a very pretty churchtown by the sea. There are narrow streets with old houses in every direction, houses made of stones or cob and painted white. The roofs made of grey slates are covered with orange lichen. All the colours are gentle. They are not harsh. Alfred Wallis liked to paint the houses and the fishing boats in the harbour. But sometimes someone comes with different ideas. The owner of a sweetshop wanted to paint the shop candy pink. And more recently another owner provoked an uproar with his cobalt blue walls. Will they have to change the colours? I will go and investigate in summer!
