At fifty minutes after midnight there was an earthquake in Cornwall. The epicentre of the earthquake was offshore in Mount's Bay (bay of the grey rock), 13km deep. It measured 2.7 on the Richter Scale, hardly enough to be felt in nearby towns. It was not strong enough to damage buildings. "We heard a loud sound and the ground shook," said someone.
