Have you read the novel called “North and South”? You did read it? But which one? There are two novels with the same name. One was written by a woman in the 19th century and the other was written by a man in the 20th century. There is 127 years between them. Are they very different? There is a love story in both, and there is conflict between north and south. The older book is set in England in the time of the Industrial Revolution. There are disputes between employers and employees. There are riots. The more recent book is set in America in the time of the Civil War. The northern states want to abolish slavery. The southern states want to keep slaves.
