Can you remember books you read at school. An early memory is "Bran the Bronze-Smith" - an old historical novel. You can learn a bit of history from stories, painlessly. I am not a fast reader, so I did not reach the end of some of my books. "David Copperfield" by Charles Dickens is too long. I must watch a film to find out the ending. We read "Father and Son" by Edmund Gosse - his autobiography. I was too young to appreciate it. I liked the boy and his father looking at little creatures in rock pools on the beach, but I had no empathy with a young man. Now I understand better. I have several (auto)biographies like that. "My Family and Other Animals" by Gerald Durrell is funnier. And book covers now are more attractive.
