Advent is the four weeks before Christmas in Christian churches - four weeks of reflection (or forty days for some people). There is a different theme for each week - Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Some people make an Advent wreath with evergreen leaves, such as holly, bits of Christmas tree and pine cones. There are four candles to be lit, one for each Sunday in Advent - a Hope Candle, a Peace Candle, a Joy Candle (a Shepherd's Candle) and a Love Candle. The candles can be different colours - sometimes purple, blue, red, pink or white. Without candles you can hang an Advent wreath on a wall or door.
