2022 Dedh Dogens ha Whegh

De Meurth, pemdhegves mis Whevrel

Tuesday, 15th February

Gwell via genam nakevy hedhyw! Skith o vy dhort gwary gen (gans) ow flehes wydn. Ma re a nerth dhodhans, ha mons ow tebry re. Na veu termyn luck dhe dhebry ow honan! Ha ma drog treys genam. Gellys po en còsca ens lebmyn ha difres ew bos sedhys ha scrifa.

Ottobma radn bian moy a'm descansow.

I would rather forget today! I'm tired from playing with my grandchildren. They have too much energy and they eat too much. There wasn't enough time to eat myself. And my feet hurt. They're gone or asleep now and it's a relief to be sitting and writing.

Here's another little part of my lessons.

Cressya emann agan tavas Kernowek. Radn 2b

Building up our Cornish language. Part 2b

Here's a reminder of the paradigm for with/by + personal pronouns. Some versions are more emphatic than others. (Those in bold  are simply my own preferences.) Also, I include more examples.

gen ~ gans = with or by

1s genam, genama, gena vy

Da lowr ew hedna genam. That's OK by me.
Keus ew cas genam. I hate cheese.
(Spelling note: <k> is needed before e, i and y for hard sound in Kernowek Bew, otherwise we use <c>

2s genes, gena chy

Fatla genes? How are you? How is it with you?

Duw genes. God by you. Goodbye.

3sm ganjo, ganso, gans ev, gens ev

Fatla ganjo? How is he?

3sf gensy, genjy, gos’hy, gans hei

1p genen, gena nei

2p genow(gh), geno whei

Fatla geno whei? How are you? How is it with you?

3p ganjans, gans anjei

You can, of course, use a name or noun instead of a pronoun, with gen, e.g.

Fatla gen Maria? How is Mary?

Fatla gen dha vabm? How's your mum?

Fatla gen agas kerens? How are your parents (relatives)?

You might want to ask a question about WHAT somebody likes.

You can use Pandra? or Peth?

Pandr'ew da genes? What do you like? What is good by you?

Peth ew da genes? What do you like? What is good by you?  (Pyth)

Pandr'ew gwell genes? What do you prefer? What is better by  you?

There are some other alternatives to "da", "gwell" and "cas" to express feelings, "mall" and "marth" (don't get them muddled up)

Mall ew genam agas gweles. I am looking forward to seeing  you.

Eager is with me your seeing.  (gweles = verbal noun)

Mall ew genam terebo nessa. I am looking forward till next time.

Hopefully you won't need this one too often.

Marth ew genam. I'm embarrassed. I'm ashamed. Shame is with me.
