The birds are hungry in cold weather. They need food. They need new water, too, because there is ice on puddles and bowls. The robin in the hedge asks very sweetly for oats every day. But there is competition. The robin has to eat quickly. Bigger birds and squirrels love oats as well. They come from the trees. There's competition between a squirrel and a wood pigeon. Who will give up? Sometimes there is a crow (or is it a rook?). She will fly away if she sees me. Jackdaws come and go quickly, too. Soon there are no oats left.
