There would not be life without light. On the Earth the light comes from the sun. Sunlight is made of different colours. We see the different colours in a rainbow. Now, somewhere, vegetation (green plants) is capturing the light energy and using it to make food and oxygen. Why are plants green? Only part of the light is captured. The remainder is reflected to our eyes. We see things by reflected light. If there is a reflection the light is bouncing twice! We see reflections on the surface of smooth water, in mirrors, in glass, in smooth metal. Look at the clouds on a wet beach. See a boat in Hayle at low tide. In the Tate art gallery there is a work of art made of glass, metal and mirrors. It has a different appearance from every direction.
