Carols are a part of the Cornish culture. Miners liked to sing carols at Christmas time. Many of them were composed and sung in the district around Camborne and Redruth. Methodist were known as the Singers for their love of singing carols and hymns together.  Many books were published, in Cornwall and overseas. But the tradition is very old. In 1508 Elizabeth of York paid "to Cornishe for setting of a carolle upon Christmas Day".
