The moon is fascinating and once upon a time it was worshipped. The months were determined by the moon; "kalends", was the time of the new moon, "nones" was the first quarter and "ides" was the full moon. We still have some "kalends" in Cornwall, but they are not tied to the new moon. Our months are now longer than a moon cycle. Tonight, it is the last quarter of the moon. Each full moon was called by a name suitable for the season - by farmers and hunters and observers of the seasons. Words like worm, wolf, snow, ice.
