Falmouth was founded in 1613 by the Killigrew family. It grew to be a more important and bigger port than the neighbour, Penryn. There's a building in Falmouth, begun in about 1700. At first it was a chapel, then it was no longer needed because a bigger chapel was built. The Killigrew family then gave it to the town, along with two ceremonial maces, as a town hall. Now it is an art gallery. The town had a mayor and officers. Was there a lot of crime in Falmouth? There is a saying in my little book:
"Like the Mayor of Falmouth, who thanked God when the town gaol was enlarged."
